1. Product Development Execution
Receive and review approved Product Requirement Specifications (PRS), product briefs and change requests from Brand / Business teams.
Translate business and consumer requirements into practical product development and execution plans.
Lead the development process from approved specification through to final commercial-ready product.
Coordinate with R&D, Quality Assurance, Production, Procurement, Supply Chain, Engineering, Brand and Business teams as required.
Ensure every development project is delivered within the agreed quality, cost, specification and timeline.
2. Packaging Development
Take ownership of the complete packaging development process, including:
Primary, secondary and tertiary packaging development.
Packaging structure and format development.
Selection and validation of appropriate packaging materials.
Development of packaging specifications and technical parameters.
Evaluation of material suitability, durability, functionality, safety and consumer convenience.
Development of packaging solutions appropriate to product characteristics, distribution environment and market requirements.
Benchmarking packaging against leading local and international brands.
Ensuring packaging materials meet the required quality and consumer expectations.
The incumbent should continuously identify opportunities for better, smarter, safer, more sustainable and commercially efficient packaging solutions.
3. Packaging Material Development & Validation
Identify and evaluate suitable packaging materials based on product requirements.
Develop and maintain packaging material specifications.
Evaluate material samples and supplier submissions.
Conduct comparative assessment of alternative materials.
Coordinate required technical testing and validation.
Ensure materials meet approved specifications and applicable quality standards.
Work with Procurement and suppliers to develop alternative sources where necessary.
Ensure consistency of packaging materials during commercial production.
4. Artwork, Printing & Graphic Execution
Manage the technical execution of packaging artwork after approval of the required design/content by the Brand / Business team.
Responsibilities include:
Coordinate artwork adaptation according to final packaging dimensions and specifications.
Ensure artwork is technically suitable for the selected printing process.
Coordinate colour management, proofing and colour matching.
Manage pre-press requirements.
Review printing plates/cylinders/dies and other technical requirements where applicable.
Coordinate print trials and commercial samples.
Resolve technical printing issues such as colour variation, registration, readability, finishing and material compatibility.
Ensure final printed packaging matches the approved specimen and technical requirements.
The incumbent will not replace the Brand/Creative team in determining brand communication or visual design; rather, he/she will ensure the approved design is technically and commercially executable.
5. Sampling, Prototype & Trial Management
Develop prototypes, mock-ups, dummies and samples for new products and packaging.
Coordinate laboratory, technical and production trials where required.
Arrange sample evaluation with relevant stakeholders.
Document feedback and manage required modifications.
Ensure final approval samples are properly documented before commercial production.
Maintain a clear Golden Sample / Master Sample system for developed packaging wherever applicable.
6. Quality & Consumer Acceptability
Establish appropriate quality benchmarks for packaging and product presentation.
Evaluate developed materials from the perspective of consumer usability, appearance, functionality, durability and perceived quality.
Benchmark against leading competitors and international standards.
Work closely with Quality Assurance / Quality Control teams to ensure compliance.
Investigate and resolve packaging-related quality issues arising after commercialization.
Ensure the final product and packaging reflect the intended quality positioning of the brand.
7. Supplier & Vendor Development
Identify and assess capable packaging material and printing suppliers.
Work with Procurement to technically evaluate suppliers.
Conduct supplier capability assessments where necessary.
Develop alternative materials, vendors and technical solutions.
Maintain a database of approved materials, specifications, suppliers and development samples.
Support cost optimization without compromising approved quality standards.
8. Cost Optimization & Value Engineering
Explore opportunities for cost optimization through:
Material optimization
Packaging redesign
Structural improvement
Alternative materials
Manufacturing efficiency
Printing optimization
Supplier development
Conduct value engineering while maintaining product integrity and consumer expectations.
Support Business / Finance / Procurement teams with technical inputs for product costing.
9. Product Modification & Change Management
The incumbent will also manage change requests for existing products, including:
Packaging material changes
Pack-size changes
Structural changes
Printing/finishing changes
Supplier/material substitutions
Quality improvement initiatives
Cost optimization initiatives
Regulatory or production-driven changes
All changes must be properly documented, validated and approved before implementation.
10. Cross-SBU Product Development
As this is a centralized role, the incumbent will be expected to work across multiple industries.
The role may involve simultaneous projects covering:
Food & FMCG → Feed → Cement → Steel → Engineering → Other Industrial Products
Accordingly, the incumbent must be capable of understanding fundamentally different product, packaging, material and manufacturing requirements across industries.
Experience:6-12 years of relevant experience in Product Development, Innovation, R&D, or Category Development.Minimum 3 years in a managerial or project leadership role.Preferred Industry Experience:FMCGFoods & BeveragesPersonal CareHome CareConsumer Goods.Functional Skills Required:1.
