Job Description

  1. Perform Laboratory Tests: Conduct routine and specialized laboratory investigations in Hematology, Clinical Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry, Immunology, Serology, and Microbiology as assigned.

  2. Operate and Maintain Laboratory Equipment: Operate, calibrate, maintain, and perform routine troubleshooting of laboratory analyzers and equipment to ensure accurate and reliable test results.

  3. Ensure Quality Control: Perform daily internal quality control (QC), participate in quality assurance (QA) programs, and follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  4. Report Test Results: Verify, record, and report laboratory test results accurately and promptly through the Laboratory Information System (LIS) or other approved reporting systems, immediately informing the concerned physician of any critical values.

  5. Maintain Laboratory Safety: Follow infection prevention and control (IPC) guidelines, use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and ensure proper biomedical waste segregation and disposal.

  6. Maintain Laboratory Records and Inventory: Keep accurate records of test results, specimen logs, quality control data, equipment maintenance, and monitor stock levels of reagents and consumables.

  7. Provide Patient Care and Communication: Explain specimen collection procedures to patients, maintain patient confidentiality, and provide courteous and professional service throughout the testing process.

  8. Collect Blood Samples (Phlebotomy): Perform venous and capillary blood collection safely and accurately using standard phlebotomy techniques while ensuring proper patient identification and comfort.

  9. Receive and Process Specimens: Collect, receive, label, register, and process blood, urine, stool, body fluids, and other clinical specimens according to established laboratory procedures.

  10. Comply with Hospital Policies: Adhere to the policies, rules, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of Universal Medical College & Hospital (UMCH) and perform any other duties assigned by the Head of the Laboratory or Hospital Management.
