Role Summary
This role leads the strategy, design, and delivery of enterprise traceability solutions underpinning DigiProdPass’s Digital Product Passport platform and supply chain visibility offering.
The Product Owner – Traceability owns the traceability capability, delivering robust, scalable, and standards-compliant traceability data that feeds the DPP product layer. The role works in partnership with the Product Owner – DPP: traceability capability ownership sits here; DPP product ownership sits with the DPP PO. The ideal candidate brings hands-on knowledge of supply chain traceability, serialisation, event capture, and interoperability standards (GS1, EPCIS, Digital Link), and familiarity with where AI and automation apply to traceability platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Ownership
● Own and execute the product roadmap for the traceability capability, aligned with DigiProdPass platform strategy.
● Define the vision for end-to-end supply chain transparency and product lifecycle data capture.
● Prioritise the backlog by business value, customer need, and regulatory requirements.
● Translate traceability requirements into product features, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
● Lead sprint planning, backlog refinement, and release planning.
● Present roadmap updates and product demonstrations to stakeholders and leadership.
Traceability Solution Management
● Design end-to-end traceability models across suppliers, manufacturers, logistics providers, distributors, retailers, and recyclers.
● Define product identity, serialisation, batch tracking, lot genealogy, and event capture mechanisms.
● Ensure complete traceability from raw material sourcing through production, distribution, usage, and end-of-life.
● Enable real-time supply chain visibility and provenance verification for enterprise customers.
● Model product recall readiness, audit defence, and Scope 3 emissions tracking as first-class traceability use cases.
● Build scalable traceability frameworks that support multiple industries and regulatory contexts.
Cross-PO Collaboration & Platform Integration
● Partner with the Product Owner – DPP to align traceability data structures and event models with DPP output requirements.
● Maintain a shared data model and API contract between the two capabilities, reviewed each sprint.
● Run joint backlog refinement sessions to surface cross-capability dependencies and sequence delivery.
● Escalate roadmap conflicts or integration risks to the Head of Product; operate with a platform-first mindset.
● Co-own integration documentation, data lineage definitions, and traceability-to-DPP mapping specifications.
Compliance & Regulatory Support
● Ensure traceability event data, serialisation records, and supply chain documentation meet audit and regulatory reporting requirements.
● Work with the DPP PO and legal/compliance teams to translate evolving regulatory obligations into traceability data requirements.
● Maintain audit readiness with complete, versioned digital traceability records.
● Track EU ESPR, Battery Regulation, and circular economy directives for their traceability data implications.
Data Governance & Interoperability
● Define traceability data requirements and contribute to the shared governance model alongside the DPP PO and engineering.
● Maintain interoperability between traceability systems and ERP, MES, PLM, IoT platforms, and external partners.
● Drive adoption of GS1 identifiers, EPCIS 2.0, Digital Link, JSON-LD, and API-first architecture.
● Define data quality, lineage, ownership, retention, and access control requirements for traceability records.
● Support secure data exchange within federated and partner ecosystems. Customer Discovery & Validation
● Lead customer discovery through structured interviews with manufacturers, suppliers, and logistics operators to surface traceability pain points.
● Apply jobs-to-be-done methodology and evidence-based prioritisation, grounding the roadmap in validated customer need.
● Validate requirements with customer stakeholders and technical teams before committing to delivery. Partner & Ecosystem Integration
● Define integration requirements and API contracts for enterprise ERP (SAP, Oracle), MES, IoT, and logistics platforms.
● Work with customers and integration partners to co-develop and validate integration approaches.
● Manage requirements for third-party data-sharing agreements and partner onboarding.
● Support pre-sales and RFQ responses with capability definitions, integration scope, and technical constraints.
Documentation & Product Governance
Prepare and maintain:
● PRDs, BRDs, and Functional Specifications
● Traceability Data Models and API Specifications
● Process Flow and BPMN Swimlane Diagrams
● User Stories, Acceptance Criteria, and Release Notes
● Traceability-to-DPP Integration Mapping Documents
Keep requirements, features, tasks, test cases, and delivered functionality linked end-to-end. All documentation must be version-controlled and accessible.
Cross-functional Leadership
● Serve as the primary liaison between business, engineering, compliance, and external ecosystem partners for the traceability capability.
● Work with architects on scalable, standards-compliant traceability solutions.
● Participate in joint planning and review ceremonies with the DPP PO workstream.
Required Skills & Competencies
Product Management
● Proven experience managing enterprise software products in a SaaS or platform context.
● Expertise in Agile/Scrum: sprint planning, backlog refinement, and release management.
● Experience defining product strategy and multi-quarter roadmaps.
● Customer-centric thinking grounded in validated discovery, not assumption.
● Operates effectively as a PO within a multi-PO organisation, managing lateral dependencies and shared backlogs.
Traceability & Supply Chain
● Strong understanding of supply chain processes and product lifecycle management.
● Hands-on experience with serialisation, batch tracking, lot genealogy, and event capture.
● Familiarity with supply chain risk scenarios: product recalls, audit defence, and Scope 3 obligations.
● Experience designing end-to-end traceability solutions for manufacturing, logistics, or retail.
● Working knowledge of Digital Product Passport concepts sufficient to define traceability data that feeds DPP requirements.
Technical Skills
● Strong understanding of SDLC and system architecture.
● REST APIs, event-driven integrations, and webhook-based architectures.
● Data modelling, SQL fundamentals, and cloud-based SaaS platform concepts.
● Experience with Jira or equivalent tools.
● Familiarity with ERP/MES integration patterns at an architectural level.
Standards & Interoperability
Experience with one or more of: GS1 Standards, EPCIS 2.0, Digital Link, Data Spaces, JSON-LD, Open APIs, Master Data Management (MDM).
AI & Intelligent Automation
● Knowledge of ML and AI applications in traceability: anomaly detection, non-compliance flagging, data quality scoring, and pattern recognition across serialisation events.
● Defines AI-assisted features and writes acceptance criteria for probabilistic outputs, including confidence thresholds and fallback behaviours.
● Familiarity with LLM-based interfaces for traceability data: natural language querying of supply chain events, AI-generated compliance summaries.
● Applies responsible AI principles to supply chain data: explainability, data provenance, and cross-partner privacy.
● Uses AI tools to accelerate product work: requirements drafting, discovery synthesis, competitive analysis.
Business, Analytical & Communication Skills
● Translates supply chain challenges into scalable digital product features; strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
● Strong stakeholder management across technical, commercial, and regulatory audiences.
● Evidence-based prioritisation — defends roadmap decisions with customer research, usage signals, and commercial context.
● Strategic thinking with execution focus; moves fluently between product vision and sprint - level detail.
● Clear, confident communicator across executive, customer, and technical audiences.
● Manages ambiguity and drives clarity in greenfield product development.
● Collaborative by default — builds a productive, low-friction relationship with the peer DPP PO on an integrated platform.
