Job Description

To manage and supervise the overall operations of the Central Transport Workshop, ensuring timely maintenance, repair, servicing, and availability of company vehicles, trucks, and transport equipment. The position will ensure efficient workshop operations, cost control, vehicle safety, and minimum downtime.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Workshop Management

    • Supervise day-to-day activities of the Central Transport Workshop.

    • Ensure proper maintenance, servicing, and repair of all company vehicles and transport equipment.

    • Prepare and implement preventive maintenance schedules.

    • Ensure minimum vehicle downtime and maximum fleet availability.

  2. Vehicle Maintenance & Repair

    • Monitor mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, engine, transmission, brake, suspension, and other repair works.

    • Diagnose vehicle problems and ensure proper corrective action.

    • Inspect vehicles before and after major repairs.

    • Ensure quality workmanship and use of appropriate spare parts and materials.

  3. Team Management

    • Supervise mechanics, electricians, welders, helpers, drivers, and other workshop personnel.

    • Allocate jobs and monitor employee performance and productivity.

    • Ensure discipline, attendance, and proper utilization of manpower.

    • Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training to workshop staff.

  4. Spare Parts & Inventory Control

    • Monitor stock of spare parts, lubricants, batteries, tyres, tools, and workshop consumables.

    • Prepare spare parts requirements based on maintenance schedules and vehicle conditions.

    • Ensure proper storage and controlled issuance of spare parts.

    • Reduce unnecessary consumption and maintenance costs.

  5. Cost Control

    • Control workshop repair and maintenance expenses.

    • Review repair estimates and ensure economical maintenance solutions.

    • Maintain records of vehicle-wise maintenance costs.

    • Identify opportunities for reducing fuel, spare parts, and repair costs.

  6. Safety & Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with company HSE policies and workshop safety procedures.

    • Ensure proper use of PPE by all workshop employees.

    • Maintain safe working conditions and proper housekeeping.

    • Ensure safe handling of fuel, lubricants, batteries, welding equipment, and other hazardous materials.

  7. Documentation & Reporting

    • Maintain vehicle-wise maintenance and repair records.

    • Maintain records of preventive and breakdown maintenance.

    • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly workshop reports.

    • Report major breakdowns, recurring problems, and maintenance requirements to management.

  8. External Workshop & Vendor Coordination

    • Coordinate with authorized external workshops and service providers when specialized repairs are required.

    • Evaluate repair quality and service performance.

    • Coordinate with Procurement for spare parts, services, and workshop requirements.

  9. Fleet Availability

    • Coordinate with Transport Operations to ensure vehicles are available according to operational requirements.

    • Prioritize urgent repairs based on business needs.

    • Monitor vehicle breakdown trends and take preventive measures.
