Phlebotomist under Laboratory Medicine dept.

Job Summary: Bangladesh Specialized Hospital PLC (BSH) is seeking a skilled and compassionate Phlebotomist to join our Laboratory Medicine team. The selected candidate will ensure high-quality phlebotomy services and uphold laboratory stewardship, contributing to timely and accurate specimen collection. The role requires excellent patient interaction skills, adherence to medical standards, and a commitment to providing the best possible experience for patients.

Job Description:

• Ensure accurate patient identification before blood collection, strictly following hospital protocols.

• Perform blood collection for various tests, ensuring adherence to the correct order of draw (e.g., Blood Culture → Plain Tube → Coagulation Tube → Heparin Tube → Violet Tube → Fluoride Tube).

• Use butterfly needles for blood extraction from children and patients with thin veins, ensuring minimal discomfort.

• Properly select and use anticoagulants and blood collection tubes as per test requirements.

• Conduct swab collections for Throat, Nasal, Eye, Ear, and Wound samples using correct techniques.

• Guide patients on proper mid-stream urine sample collection for laboratory analysis.

• Handle and process Histopathology, Cytology, Culture, and Sensitivity specimens with utmost care.

• Maintain accurate documentation, including registering culture specimens and recording collection details (name, time, date) on request forms.

• Keep workstations well-organized with all necessary equipment (sterile cotton, alcohol swabs, iodine, band-aids, syringes, tubes, tourniquets, etc.).

• Ensure a professional, courteous, and friendly approach when dealing with patients.

• Follow hospital SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and infection control protocols strictly.

• Work efficiently within assigned workstations, cabins, and wards, maintaining operational readiness at all times.

Age At most 30 years Minimum 2 years of professional experience in a hospital, clinic, or diagnostic center.Strong patient-handling and communication skills.Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced healthcare environment.Proficiency in Microsoft Office for basic record-keeping.Highly dedicated, punctual, and proactive with an enthusiastic approach.
