Job Summary:-

The Sr. Medical Officer / Medical Officer – Infection Control at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital is responsible for implementing and maintaining an effective Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) program to reduce healthcare-associated infections and ensure patient, staff, and visitor safety. The role involves surveillance of infections, monitoring compliance with IPC policies, conducting audits and outbreak investigations, providing staff training, and ensuring adherence to national and international infection control standards. The Medical Officer works collaboratively with clinical, nursing, laboratory, pharmacy, and support services to promote best practices in hygiene, sterilization, antimicrobial stewardship, and environmental safety while supporting hospital quality improvement and accreditation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Infection Prevention & Control Management

  • Develop, implement, and regularly update infection prevention and control policies, guidelines, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

  • Ensure effective implementation of IPC practices across all clinical and non-clinical areas.

  • Conduct regular infection risk assessments and recommend corrective and preventive actions.

  • Support antimicrobial stewardship initiatives in collaboration with relevant departments.

Surveillance & Data Management

  • Conduct continuous surveillance of healthcare-associated infections.

  • Collect, analyze, interpret, and report infection control data to identify trends and potential outbreaks.

  • Investigate suspected or confirmed infection outbreaks and coordinate timely response measures.

  • Maintain accurate IPC records, reports, and documentation.

Monitoring, Audit & Compliance

  • Monitor compliance with infection control protocols, including hand hygiene, PPE usage, isolation practices, and waste management.

  • Conduct regular IPC audits and Hospital rounds.

  • Prepare the hospital for internal and external inspections, audits, and accreditation requirements.

  • Ensure adherence to national health regulations and international IPC guidelines.

Training & Capacity Building

  • Plan and conduct infection control training programs for doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, and support staff.

  • Provide orientation and refresher training on infection prevention practices.

  • Promote awareness of updated IPC guidelines and emerging infectious disease threats.

Collaboration & Coordination

  • Work closely with clinical departments, nursing services, laboratory, pharmacy, housekeeping, and engineering teams.

  • Actively participate in the Infection Prevention & Control Committee and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Provide expert advice on patient isolation and infection control measures.

Equipment, Environment & Safety

  • Ensure proper sterilization, disinfection, and handling of medical instruments and equipment.

  • Monitor environmental hygiene, including cleaning, disinfection, and ventilation practices.

  • Advise on hospital infrastructure, workflow, and patient movement to reduce infection risks.

Reporting & Communication

  • Prepare and submit regular IPC reports to hospital management and regulatory authorities as required.

  • Communicate infection control issues, risks, and recommendations clearly to stakeholders.

  • Maintain confidentiality and professional standards in all communications.

Job Requirements

Age At most 45 years Having experience in clinical or public health experience, preferably in infection control or hospital epidemiology.Training or experience in infection surveillance and quality improvement is an advantage.
