Position Overview
The Shipping & Sourcing Manager is responsible for end-to-end material sourcing, supplier coordination, and shipping logistics within the apparel supply chain.
The role manages global supplier relationships, pricing and commercial terms, inbound and outbound logistics, customs compliance, inventory coordination, and team performance to support timely, cost-effective, and reliable product delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Shipping & Logistics Management
Oversee inbound and outbound logistics from suppliers through warehouses or retailers, ensuring smooth and timely shipping operations.
Manage shipping schedules, freight rates, carrier relationships, and delivery timelines to optimize cost and service.
Coordinate with internal teams to forecast demand and plan shipments accordingly.
Monitor customs requirements and import/export compliance to prevent avoidable delays and additional costs.
Prepare, verify, and reconcile shipping and trade documentation, ensuring LC terms, commercial invoices, and packing lists align before submission to avoid discrepancies, demurrage, and customs holds.
Implement improvements that increase logistics efficiency and reduce lead times.
Sourcing & Supplier Management
Identify, evaluate, and manage relationships with fabric mills, trims suppliers, and apparel manufacturers.
Negotiate supplier pricing, terms, and contracts to improve cost efficiency without compromising quality.
Ensure sourced materials meet required quality standards, sustainability guidelines, and production deadlines.
Stay current on industry trends, innovations, and sourcing strategies to continuously improve procurement processes.
Inventory & Supply Chain Coordination
Work closely with production and inventory teams to ensure stock levels are aligned with demand.
Address supply chain disruptions proactively and develop solutions that minimize impact on production and delivery.
Maintain accurate records of shipments, sourcing agreements, and supplier performance.
Team Leadership & Development
Supervise and support day-to-day team operations while setting clear goals, responsibilities, and expectations.
Provide regular feedback and performance evaluations, identify training needs, and support team development.
Foster a positive and collaborative work environment and address conflicts or performance issues promptly.
Qualifications & Experience8+ years of sourcing and shipping experience within the apparel industry, including 5+ years in a managerial role.Strong knowledge of global supply chains, supplier negotiations, shipping, freight, and logistics operations.Familiarity with textile and garment production processes, quality control, and compliance standards.Proficiency with supply chain software, ERP systems, and logistics platforms.Excellent communication and negotiation skills with strong analytical and proactive problem-solving abilities.Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment.Core CompetenciesSupplier & Commercial Management Builds strong supplier relationships and negotiates effective pricing, terms, and agreements.Shipping & Logistics Execution - Manages freight, carriers, customs, shipping schedules, and delivery performance.Supply Chain Coordination & Problem Solving - Anticipates disruptions and coordinates practical solutions across production, inventory, and shipping.Leadership & Accountability - Sets expectations, develops team members, and addresses performance issues promptly.Continuous Improvement & Planning - Improves sourcing and logistics processes while balancing cost, quality, and lead time.High English Proficiency - The candidate must be able to articulate, orate, read, understand and write with proper English, adequate to work with a Canadian based company.
